Opening to the public Saturday, January 24th from 7-10pm, Inner State Gallery is proud to present “We Have A Dream” a group exhibition featuring more than 40 emerging Detroit artists, each paying homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historical “I Have A Dream” speech.

“In celebration of Dr. King’s legacy my goal was to curate a group exhibition that would shine a light on local artists and their dreams that are shaping the Detroit art scene,” curator Roula David said.

An often overlooked fact is Dr. King’s connection to Detroit and his historic Washington D.C. rendition of “I Have A Dream.” One month before the now famous speech, Dr. King delivered "I Have A Dream" before 25,000 people at Cobo Hall on June 23, 1963.  The Cobo speech would also be released on Motown subsidiary Gordy Records as an LP entitled "The Great March To Freedom".

With this connection in mind, the question was posed to some of Detroit’s most creative minds: What is your dream world? Encouraging each artist not only to listen to Dr. King’s words but to find their unique voice and develop their feelings that are evoked after hearing Dr. King’s now historical speech.

Participating artists include Allison Vince, Ashley McFadden, Ashley Marie, Ben Saginaw, Bethany Shorb, Brian Lacey, Christopher Batten, Corey Birdwell, Desiree Kelly, Dessislava Terzieva, Ellen Rutt, Eno Laget, Exactly Hi-Tops, James Noellert, Jeremy Deputat, Jesse Kassel, Jon Parlangeli, Joshua Hanford, Julian Spradlin, Kobie Solomon, Lamar Landers, Malt, Mark Sarmel, Michael Eugene Burdick, Michelle Tanguay, Mike Popso, Nick Jaskey, NNII, Paula Schubatis, Paula Zammit, Rashaun Rucker, Rick Williams, Robby Dimaria, Ron Zakrin, Ryan C.
